Internships
Research internships at the Faculty of Sciences
Spending some time abroad during your studies is not only a great asset for your CV, but also a beneficial personal experience. A research internship at a university is a great way to do this. Not only will you get to know a new country and a new university, but you will also gain first-hand experience of working in an international research group.
You are responsible for finding a supervisor for your research internship. Many chairs and research groups at the Faculty of Sciences are open to applications from international students for a research internship. Applications should always be directed to the respective working group.
Pay attention to the following points:
- Why do you want to do an internship in this research group? Be as specific as possible and refer to the research of the working group.
- Introduce yourself and your experience (own work, interests, methodological skills).
- Think about funding. Research internships often cannot be paid. Sometimes a scholarship is possible.
In most cases, an internship is an employment relationship and certain requirements go along with it. In particular, interns without EU citizenship have to submit a variety of documents. FAU is happy to support you, but we rely on you contacting us early and also informing yourself about the requirements.
You can find all the necessary information on FAU’s International Office website.
Processes can be significantly simplified if research internships begin on April 1st or October 1st. In this case, it is often possible to enrol as a student.
