Kick-off Meeting of the Research Training Group GRK 2423 FRASCAL on April 2nd, 2019
The first official event of FAU’s Research Training Group GRK 2423 FRASCAL will take place at the lecture hall Hans-Georg-Waeber-Saal, Fraunhofer IISB, Schottkystr. 10, 91058 Erlangen on April 2nd, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
“How do different materials break apart?”
So far, there is a lack of a holistic, comprehensive approach with which fracture processes in various, especially in heterogeneous materials and at different time and length resolutions can be detected.
For this reason, young researchers of GRK 2423 FRASCAL want to develop simulation methods in 12 interdisciplinary projects to detect fracture processes in brittle, granular and porous materials ranging from sub-atomic to macroscopic dimensions at various time scales (“Fracture across Scales – FRASCAL”). These insights will allow tailoring and optimizing materials against fracture.
The GRK 2423 FRASCAL research training group will be in intensive and long-term scientific exchange with three internationally recognized and renowned scientists in the field of fracture mechanics Prof. Michael Ortiz (California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA), Prof. Elias Aifantis (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece), and Dr. Laurent Ponson, (Pierre et Marie Curie University, Paris, France). All three experts are going to talk about their fields of research at the kick-off meeting.
Information: The lecture of Dr. Flessner has been cancelled due to sickness.
